Hank's Saloon
$10
Andy Friedman has done it again. He’s taken a Saturday night at Brooklyn’s premiere country dive bar Hank’s Saloon and turned it into an event. On this particular eve, Mr. Friedman and his Other Failures will host and play a show headlined by none other than Blue Mountain, and featuring special guests The Newton Gang and Brian McGee and Hollow Speed.
First on the scene tonight starting at 8pm are local outlaw country heroes The Newton Gang. Honky Tonk Angel Carin Gorrell and crooner JD Duarte front this all-star band from the Brooklyn scene. Make sure and be there early to catch their rendition of David Allan Coe’s “You Never Even Called Me By My Name.”
Next up are Brian McGee & Hollow Speed from Ashville, NC. They’ve made recent stops to Brooklyn and are building quite a reputation for their up-tempo mix of country and punk. If you haven’t seen them raise the roof at ol‘ Hanks, well then tonight’s your night.
Brooklyn troubadour Andy Friedman has a voice that would make Johnny Cash crack a crooked grin and the lyrical and performance staying power of a legend. He’s backed by one of the hottest bands this side of the Pecos and will charm the thrift store Wranglers off your dancin' partner. He’s bound to play material from his upcoming release, but beg to hear “I Don't want to Die Like Andy Kaufman” if you know what's good for you.
Headlining the night is Blue Mountain.
Living and playing in Oxford, Mississippi since the late eighties, Blue Mountain has been a part of the same musical confluence that shaped a number of great American musicians, from Elvis to Tammy Wynette to Robert Johnson to Alex Chilton. Cary Hudson and Laurie Stirratt, who grew up listening to gospel, country and bluegrass, and Frank Coutch, make up this trio that have been burning up state highways with their brand of Americana for nearly two decades.

The Flanks are pure, authentic, beautiful, crooked country jug music. The Flanks are that band in the corner of the town hall dance on Main Street. They're those people you've seen every day on your way to work, in various disguises of drudgery, who roll themselves into a crimefighting machine of plucky twang by night.
